Super Sweet Treats That Aren't Spooky!

I am on Day 10 of my Fresh Start to Fall detox. The program is 21 days and already the heavy feeling in my gut is gone and I have more energy. I have to be honest though, doing a detox over Halloween is a little frightening. I love candy, especially anything with peanut butter and chocolate. There is Halloween candy everywhere and I my cravings are pretty high. So instead of indulging in a couple of those not so fun, fun-sized candy bars, I opted to curve the craving with a homemade treat that is detox friendly.

A go to at my house when I am wanting something sweet is usually my Chocolate Truffles. They contain nuts and for this detox, I am not eating nuts.  I love the taste and texture of those truffles but needed to come up with something cleanse friendly.  After a little experimenting, I came up with what is now my new favorite sweet treat!!!  I am going to call them Bliss Bombs because they take me to a state of pure bliss!!!  Super simple to make, full of healthy goodness and rave reviews from my taste testers (that would be my personal trainer & foodie neighbor and my darling teenage daughter, who has no problem telling me gross).  Even better for me, the Bliss Bombs only contain items that are pantry staples for me so I will always be able to whip up a batch without a special grocery list.  So here is what you need:

18 large plump medjool dates (pits removed)

1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

1/4 cup chia seeds

1/4 cup raw cacao powder

1 teaspoon (or more) cinnamon

2-3 tablespoons melted coconut oil (do not use fractionated!!!!)

Place the dates, coconut, chia seeds, cacoa powder and cinnamon in a food processor and blend until dates are pureed and mixture is well blended.  Next, while food processor is blending, slowly pour in the melted coconut oil.  Form into small balls, about 3 dozen. Place in a storage container, using wax paper between layers.  Refrigerate for about 2 hours.  This will cause the coconut oil to solidify again, holding the balls into shape.  Store in the fridge. They will sit out fine for a little while but depending on the temperature of the room, the oil will soften and balls will loose a little of their form.  Plus they taste amazing right out of the fridge.  Like I said, complete BLISS!!!

But why this combo of ingredients?  These Bliss Bombs are super nutrient dense.  The combo of these ingredients is packed full of fiber, protein, magnesium, calcium, potassium, copper, and more. These sweet treats are amazing antioxidants and powerful energy boosters.  Dates and chia seeds are both linked to helping with blood sugar and type 2 diabetes.  Plus, anandamide in raw cacao powder is a natural mood booster, literally creating a blissful feeling in your mind and body!

So whether you are doing a seasonal cleanse like I am, just eating mindfully or simply want a sweet treat, these Bliss Bombs will satisfy your cravings for sure!!  ENJOY...
