Garden Magic

Magical Calendula! I have patiently and tenderly been loving on my garden here at the Ivy Cottage. I have a couple calendula plants that popped into bloom this week. They remind me of big bursts of golden sunshine. I harvested my first few blooms this morning☀️☀️☀️

I first discovered calendula after my first child was born. It was a lifesaver when nursing. Calendula is so nourishing for our skin!! You can easily make salves or lip balm with it. It feels so good on chapped lips or a sunburned nose.

It is also delightful in teas! I am going to try the cornbread recipe from this amazing little book I swear by using calendula threads from my garden. Calendula has many healing properties and is well know for its antioxidant and antiseptic properties, as well as being loaded with beta-carotene. This beautiful bloom is good for sore throats, sinus health, pain relief, tummy upsets and more.

I love calendula for its ancient association with ritual and ceremony. It is a go to of mine as an offering for Despacho ceremony! This bright bloom has the magical ability to calm the mind, warm the spirit and boost your courage. It is one of my garden favorites!

The weather here seems to have finally taken a turn towards summer. My garden is so grateful for that. Alongside my calendula, I have yarrow, chamomile, lavender and rosemary growing. Today I hope to get my patchouli and holy basil planted with these in my medicinal garden but there is so much more growing here. I had such fun painting rocks to label all my garden treasures a few weeks ago! I can't wait to share more with you about what is popping up here at the Ivy Cottage.
